Meet the Artist

I’m Klaudia Sonas, a Polish artist living in Zurich, Switzerland.
My painting practice explores the expressive potential of color, material, and layered surfaces as a way of constructing visual spaces that move between abstraction and references to nature. Working primarily with acrylics, oils, and mixed media, I develop compositions in which color functions as a structural and emotional element, guiding the viewer through shifting relationships between depth, movement, and balance.
My work is inspired by natural forms such as landscapes and florals, which I reinterpret through a contemporary abstract language. Rather than depicting nature directly, I focus on translating its rhythms, atmospheres, and internal structures into visual compositions that combine organic forms with controled spatial organization. This balance between structure and freedom is central to my practice.
Material plays an important role in the development of each painting. Through layering, transparency, and surface variation, I create works that evolve gradualy, alowing intuitive decisions to interact with an initial conceptual framework. Acrylic and oil painting offer different possibilities within this process, enabling me to explore contrasts between lightness and density, luminosity and depth.
Color operates as a primary language in my work. I approach it as a means of constructing visual harmony and emotional resonance, using contrasts and tonal relationships to generate a sense of movement and quiet intensity. The paintings invite a slow and attentive viewing experience in which subtle shifts in color and texture reveal themselves over time.
My work aims to create spaces of visual contemplation in which abstraction and natural references coexist, offering the viewer an open and intuitive encounter with painting.
